maaps

Our MAAPs program is one of our newest programs started in 2017. In MAAPS we  explore new routes through the High Peaks and continue to give campers an unforgettable backcountry experience. Last years MAAP’s campers are encourage to sign-up for the next level, and new adventurers are always welcome. See you on trails!!

MAAPs stands for Mountaineer, Alpine Adventurers, and Pathfinder. We will encourage our campers in the MAAPs program to be goal oriented, step up as leaders, and enjoy the benefits of learning in the Adirondack wilderness. We will have trained leaders on staff hired specifically to counsel, guide, encourage, and educate MAAPs campers. MAAPs programs run concurrently with Traditional camp programming, with same pick up and drop off times. Come explore the North Country and the Adirondacks this summer!

Pathfinder

Pathfinder is our introductory class which involves campers in the basics of backpacking and camping.  The Pathfinder class will be offered to campers of all ages and serves as a great stepping stone into backpacking and camping.  Pathfinder campers will be completely included into camp life and activities as this class will take only one spot of the five classes on their daily schedule. Pathfinder will focus its curriculum on orienteering, proper packing techniques, outdoor cooking, Leave No Trace principles, and on Wednesday afternoon Pathfinder campers will hike to the top of Owls Head Mountain to put some of their new knowledge to the test. Campers interested in taking Pathfinder would just sign up for the program as one of their classes at camp, offered weeks 2, 4, & 6.

Alpine Adventurers

Alpine Adventures is the next stepping stone to introducing campers to hiking and camping in the great outdoors.  This program is for campers ages 11 and over, and campers must be able to carry their own pack, up to 25% of their body weight and hike 3-6 miles a day.  For the first half of the week campers will be at camp in a cabin but will spend their day with other Alpine Adventurers planning for their three day trip in the Adirondacks, taking classes, and doing activities to develop their skills in the back-country. On Wednesday morning campers will venture out of camp and start their two nights and two days backpacking trip in the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks. The goal of this trip is to give campers an educational but fun experience in the back-country and opportunity to explore the Adirondacks. Campers interested in taking Alpine Adventures would sign up for the separate program, offered week 1 or 5.

Mountaineer

The  Mountaineer program will consist of a 5 day backpacking trip in the Adirondack Park. Campers will arrive at camp on Sunday and automatically get acquainted will their trip leaders and other Mountaineer campers. The Mountaineer program is available for campers ages 13+ with a passion for the great outdoors, campers must be able to carry their own pack, up to 25% of their body weight and hike 5-8 miles a day.  Mountaineers will tent on camp property for the first night before venturing into the Adirondack wilderness for the remainder of the week. Upon return to camp, they will have the option to relax with a swim or celebrate their trip by taking a trip on our zip line!
