4-H Camp Overlook
4-H Camp Overlook offers week-long traditional overnight summer camp for youth 6-19. Camp Overlook is open to ALL youth, and is moving into it’s 79th year! Campers can choose from activities including our ropes course, hiking, canoeing, sailing, arts, painting, archery, air gun, and so much more!
Planning of the 2024 camp season is underway and we excited to share some of those details with you as it leads up to it!
Camp Registration for Summer 2024 Opens February 1st!
Camper applications for Summer 2024 are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Please apply early to ensure your first choice of weeks. Camper applications must be completely filled out and accompanied by a non-refundable deposit of $150.00 Incomplete or unsigned applications will be returned and may jeopardize acceptance in your first choice of sessions.
Online registration is the quickest way to apply and hold your spot.

2024 Camp Dates
Arrival and Departure Information
CB 1 Arrives Thursday at 10:00 am. Closing Ceremony is Saturday 1:00 pm
CB 2 & CL Arrives Sunday at 1:00 pm. Closing Ceremony is Tuesday 1:00 pm
All Traditional Weeks 1-6 including M.A.A.P.s programs Arrive Sunday between 1:00—3:00 pm. Closing Ceremony is Friday 7:00 pm.
You can call the Camp Overlook office at 518-483-4769 or email campoverlook@cornell.edu to request a paper application but online registration is highly encouraged.
Paper forms must be accompanied by a check or money order. Credit card payments are accepts only with online applications.
Financial scholarships are available to residents of Franklin County, St. Lawrence County, and now Essex County and Clinton County are due April 15th.

She took CIT I last year. Her BD is 7/8. I believe she was told she could take CIT II, since her BD is so close. Maybe she was wrong.

The reasons for the ages on the CIT courses are because of Department of Health employment eligibility. We discourage campers younger than the age required because they will not be old enough to be eligible to become staff with that graduating CIT class.
Department of Health Requires staff to be 17 before the start of training. So working backwards from this date, we require CIT3’s to be 16, CIT2’s to be 15, and CIT1’s to be 14. Does this make sense? We are trying to save disappointment in the long run if someone completes the series of courses but then the following summer are not old enough to be staff with the rest of their CIT group.
We can make exceptions for the age of the classes, but we unfortunately cannot make exceptions for employment eligibility. Therefore we discourage campers younger than the age requirements.

Yes, except she did CIT I last year, when she turned 14 on July 8th, 2014. She turns 15 July 8, 2015, and 16 July 8, 2016. She has her birthday the first week of camp every year. She turns 15 in the first session of camp before session II starts for CIT II.

We are happy to let Morin into the class! However just to make sure her (and you) realize that in 2017 she would not be eligible to become staff because she will not be 17 by the beginning of staff training (not our rule, the department of health rules!).
Please email us at CampOverlook@cornell.edu with any other questions. Many parents in your predicament have their child repeat CIT1. If not, then they go through the progression just knowing that they would have to take a summer off between being a camper and counselor (if they so desired to become a staff member). I get it. Staff training starts before July 8th. I’ll tell her. I guess that may stop her from going, but I doubt it. 🙂

We are excited to see you, Emma! Our theme for week 4 is Olympics, and our theme for week 6 is Camp-chella (music festival!)
What time is the ceremony on departure day before departure. I missed it last year and I do not want miss it this year
Our closing ceremony starts at 7 pm. If you arrive at 6:45 pm, that should give you plenty of time to locate your camper, visit our camp store, and make your way to our campfire ring for the ceremony!
